How to Sell a Whisky Cask
The step-by-step process for selling your whisky cask
A transparent, fully documented process — from verifying your cask to completing the sale. See pricing →
1
Locate your Delivery Order (DO)
The Delivery Order (DO) is the legal document issued by the bonded warehouse that proves you are the registered owner of the cask. We need this before we can proceed.
Can't find your DO? This is common. We can retrieve it on your behalf for £150.
2
Transfer cask to our bonded warehouse
We arrange for your cask to be transferred to our bonded warehouse where it undergoes a full regauge — an independent inspection to confirm volume, ABV, and cask condition. We also take samples for tasting notes.
Why? Holding the cask ourselves means we can physically verify it, offer buyers samples, and maintain a proper chain of custody.
3
Audit pack & listing preparation
We prepare a complete audit pack for your listing: Delivery Order, warehouse intake form, independent LPA measurement (litres of pure alcohol — the industry standard for pricing whisky), cask condition notes, photographic evidence, and tasting notes.
The full audit pack is shared with every potential buyer. Buyers see everything.
4
Ongoing investment quality checks
Active throughout your investment
While your cask is with us, we actively monitor and protect your investment with scheduled checks:
• Periodic regauges — verify remaining LPA
• Re-racking assessment — transfer to a sound vessel if needed
• Angel's share monitoring — abnormal evaporation flagged early
• Condition reporting — photos and notes after every check

5
Choose your exit route & go live
With your cask verified, we'll advise on the best exit — bottling is our primary route, or marketplace listing if you'd prefer a faster sale. Your cask goes live with the full audit pack attached.
6
Buyer found → sale completed
When a buyer is confirmed, we handle all the paperwork. A new Delivery Order is issued to the buyer, funds are held in escrow until transfer is confirmed, and you receive your proceeds.
Seller fee: 0%. The buyer pays 10% on top of the purchase price — you pay nothing at exit.
Our Promise
Transparency in an opaque market
Full Documentation
Every listing shows the Delivery Order reference, warehouse intake record, and audit trail.
Independent LPA Measurement
We weigh and measure every cask independently on arrival. The LPA shown is verified, not seller-supplied.
Physical Evidence
Photos of the cask, bung, and markings are included in every listing. Buyers can request a sample dram.
Escrow Transfers
Buyer funds are held in escrow until ownership transfer is confirmed. Neither side is exposed.
